Salmon Fishing

Fishing for atlantic salmon in Ireland has changed much over the last number of years. The large runs of big spring fish had dwindled from their former greatness , Grilse runs of summer months were down and salmon seem to run later and later. Then the coin flipped and we marched on a government united. 4000 fishermen from all over Ireland peacefully protested to save our Salmon, and we did.The same way we stopped a rod licence for trout on fisheries that belonged to the people of Ireland. The Irish Government banned the Drift Netting around Ireland and it also placed new rules and regulations on anglers which was necessary. With rod and line fishermen the most important thing was to put the salmon first and their fishing second and now the runs of fish have dramatically improved.

This section of the river begins below Inniscarra Dam and it’s here that most of the Salmon and trout fishing occurs. The flow and levels of the river are dictated by electricity generation and this is an important factor when choosing the best methods to fish the Lee.
